Who we are

The Circular Buildings Coalition is an initiative of the Laudes Foundation, Metabolic, Circle Economy, WorldGBC, WBCSD, Ellen McArthur Foundation, Arup to accelerate circularity in the built environment in Europe. It aims to address three main challenges to scale action in Europe through developing system analysis, hosting thematic round tables, advocacy, developing blueprint projects, and providing support to novel and proven solutions through regranting.

Laudes Foundation

Launched in 2020, Laudes Foundation challenges and inspires industry to harness its power for good. Founded by the Brenninkmeijer family business owners, we build on six generations of entrepreneurship and philanthropy and work alongside a wider network of philanthropic organisations. Laudes Foundation is part of a growing movement to accelerate a transition to climate-positive and inclusive economy.

Our vision is necessarily ambitious. We envision global markets that value all people and respect nature. An economy in which industries uplift all who participate in them, and regenerate and restore nature as a fundamental part of what they do.

Our method is resolutely practical. We support brave action that harnesses industry’s power for good. Action that inspires industry, working collaboratively to create solutions and tools. And action that challenges industry, holding it to account and incentivising change.

Metabolic

Metabolic is a systems change agency striving to transition the global economy to a fundamentally sustainable state where people and nature thrive. We guide decision-makers and implement real-world projects that bring ambitious ideas to life.

Metabolic has five core areas of operation. We conduct leading research, develop future-facing strategies, build software tools, scale impactful ventures, and empower communities on the ground.

Headquartered in Amsterdam, we have an international and interdisciplinary team. The circular economy is at the heart of our work. We have developed a suite of approaches that allow us to quickly map a system (whether a place, company, or sector), understand how it functions, and identify where we can intervene to make the greatest impact.

Circle Economy

We are a global impact organisation with an international team of passionate experts based in Amsterdam. We empower businesses, cities and nations with practical and scalable solutions to put the circular economy into action. We are a team of international experts driven to make the circular economy happen: from consulting, data, digital, industrial ecology, economics, design and communications.

Our vision is an economic system that ensures the planet and all people can thrive. To avoid climate breakdown, our goal is to double global circularity by 2032.

Circle Economy works to overcome the barriers to the implementation of the circular economy. We use hard data and facts to create roadmaps for action and inform decision making. We build digital products that can be tailored to specific contexts, making the circular economy understandable and actionable. And we do this across crucial topics and impact sectors.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation is an international charity that develops and promotes the circular economy in order to tackle some of the biggest challenges of our time, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. We work with our Network of private and public sector decision-makers, as well as academia, to build capacity, explore collaborative opportunities, and design and develop circular economy initiatives and solutions. Increasingly based on renewable energy, a circular economy is driven by design to eliminate waste, circulate products and materials, and regenerate nature, to create resilience and prosperity for business, the environment, and society.

World Green Building Council (WorldGBC)

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) catalyses the uptake of sustainable built environments for everyone, everywhere.  Transforming the building and construction sector across three strategic areas—climate action, health & wellbeing, and resources & circularity—we are a global action network of over 70 Green Building Councils around the world. As members of the UN Global Compact, we work with businesses, organisations and governments to drive the ambitions of the Paris Agreement and UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Through a systems change approach, our network is leading the industry towards a net zero carbon, healthy, equitable and resilient built environment.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

WBCSD is the premier global, CEO-led community of over 200 of the world’s leading sustainable businesses working collectively to accelerate the system transformations needed for a net-zero, nature positive, and more equitable future.

We do this by engaging executives and sustainability leaders from business and elsewhere to share practical insights on the obstacles and opportunities we currently face in tackling the integrated climate, nature and inequality sustainability challenge; by co-developing “how-to” CEO-guides from these insights; by providing science-based target guidance including standards and protocols; and by developing tools and platforms to help leading businesses in sustainability drive integrated actions to tackle climate, nature and inequality challenges across sectors and geographical regions.
